Welcome to My Dolphin Tutorial Site
Hi I'm James Tadeo (aka jtadeo at the BoonEx Unity forums) and welcome to my Dolphin Tutorial site!
One of the goals of this site is to show and share all things BoonEx related that includes things like step-by-step tutorials, free mods, paid mods, tip, tricks and great links. This site has been built using BoonEx's Dolphin Smart Community Builder. It also has a few custom mods that I've designed and developed. As they become available and as time permits, I hope to share them with those who may be interested. My mods are free for download. This site is supported by ads, donations and my Dolphin affiliate link. If you found something useful on this site, please donate to my coffee fund.
A Bit About Me
I like to create Web applications and I have professionally done work using Java, C, ActionScript, PHP & mySQL, AJAX, ASP, VB6, VB.NET, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Those are the main ones. I also like to dabble with just about any programming language when I get some spare time or if I find an interest in it.
I like to write tutorials. Teaching is one of the best ways to fine tune what you think you may know. It gets you closer to what you know about a specific field and I have found that it will give me a greater understanding of what I do. For example, I created a simple Twitter tutorial on How to Add Your Twitter RSS to the RSS Feed Block. It was a complete step-by-step and it helped me to realize there was more to the PHP blocks than I originally thought. I also wrote the a tutorial on How to Create and Work with PHP Blocks with Dolphin. Aside from helping others, it also helps me to remember what I've learned and found out. It's all good.
Dolphin Smart Community Builder by BoonEx is one of my favorite Web applications. It has so much to offer and is definitely moving in the right direction. It does take a bit of work to make it your own so that is why I wrote the Dolphin tutorials on this site. I believe that is both the challenge and the fun. I like to try out new things and getting things done. You can find tutorials in the forum and in the resources section.
You can check out my twitter or
The Unofficial Dolphin Manual
In 2008 I published the first book in the history of BoonEx on Dolphin called "The Unofficial Dolphin Manual". It's a 250+ page book that goes through the backend admin step-by-step. It also has a few select tutorials.
It's in draft version and I will be adding more pages to it as time allows. When the book is complete, I will be offering a discount and special privilege to those early adopters and buyers. To order go to http://www.lulu.com/content/5402903
Validate Me
One of the Internet's benefit is anonymity. Unfortunately, it is also its bane.
A few years ago I felt it was important that my client's information would be protected whenever certain information was being sent through my site, so I got an an SSL certificate. The SSL certificate also helps to validate that I am who I say I am.
My site has been validated with an SSL certificate by Equifax.
An SSL certificate can help in identifying a group or a person. You can check it out my SSL certifcate at https://jamestadeo.net
The process of installing an SSL certificate is now a lot easier by the way. It still requires some knowledge, but much easier when I handled one using Verisign. Along with GeoTrust, the Equifax certificate works well for me.
When my business started going international and I needed to acquire payment in a way convenient for my clients, I signed up with PayPal. I am verified with a Premier account at PayPal. I have been with PayPal since 2002. I am also part of the PayPal Developer Network. You can check out a PayPal cart I've programmed at:
http://www.onepagewebstore.com/onepagewebstore/pay/onepagewebstore.asp
The One Page Web Store allows you to create a payment page in about two minutes.
My Domain is Older Than Google
I got a big kick out of this when a few years ago one of my clients said, "Hey James, did you know your domain is older than Google?"
I didn't think much about it at the time. But she sure did. And nowadays I think it is kind of neat that my domain is older than Google. That's gotta mean something right?
My domain was registered in 1996 and you can check out some info at http://whois.domaintools.com/jamestadeo.com. At the time of this update (June 23, 2008), my domain is 12 Years, 5 months and 19 days.
I made a big deal about it on my Web site. Not sure why I did that, but I felt like tooting my own horn.
I've Been Published
I've been published by the Globe and Mail, EC&I Magazine, Adobe Magazine, How Design Magazine and Electronic Link Magazine. Here's the How Magazine article:
http://www.jamestadeo.com/how-graphic-design-magazine/design-mag-news.php
I was also quoted in the June 2008 issue of How Design Magazine.
But more importantly, my dog has been published. Check it out:

In the early days of Internet when it was super shiny and new, I did several seminars about Web and how it would make a huge impact with business. For the record, at first I really didn't feel that way. But that soon changed. That's another story by the way.
I Like to Get Involved
I run The Brampton Web Design Meetup and it won an Amazing About Page award.
From the group I've made some great friends and close associates. We meet once in a while when we aren't all working.
I Design and Develop Web Sites
Here's some of my Web design work here. You can also check out my Web site for samples with some client notes about the project.
I also run boonexnerd.net. The site offers free tutorials and free mods. I've written several custom mods for OS apps such as Joomla, phpBB2, Pligg, Orca and Dolphin.
One of my free mods can be found here at:
http://www.boonexnerd.net/dolphin/pages/dolphin-resources.php
I've written a PayPal in a profile mod at:
http://www.boonexnerd.net/dolphin/jtadeo
I wrote an Orca mod that will alert members of replies to topics and few more Orca mods that I wish I had the time to finish.
I also wrote an upload alert mod for movies files. This FREE Dolphin mod will alert you via e-mail if the member is over the total file size limit for each member. For example, if you set the limit to a total of 50 MB for each member, it will send an alert. It will also deny the member from uploading any more files by redirecting them to a page location that you specify. I've had over 400 downloads for this mod as of the beginning of May 2008.
In terms of community involvement with Boonex Dolphin, I have a growing community at Boonex. I was also one of the first Boonex Pundits. My site was recognized by Boonex as a positive contribution to promoting Dolphin. It was kind of cool to be a Pundit. :) You can see the Pundits list here. I was also the first Certified BoonEx Partner Developer and Designer in 2009.
One Last Thing
I like to sip coffee and read a good book when I need some quiet time to myself.
My midnight fuel is coffee.
With enough coffee, anything is possible :)
You can say thank you by a) buy my next round of coffee or b) donate a few bucks
Aside from that, what I love most is going out and being with my friends and family. Whether it's sailing in a katamaran, attempting to kayak, hiking to exhaustion or just hanging out, I like to chill out with my peeps.
Best,
James
